Chartreuse
Created by Carthusian monks in the monastery of La Grande Chartreuse, near Grenoble in the French Alps, the recipe dates back to 1605 when the monks received an ancient manuscript containing a formula for an "Elixir of Long Life."
Chartreuse stands out not just as a drink, but as a piece of living history, still produced according to methods handed down through generations of Carthusian monks.
