Best Whiskey for Halloween 2026: Spooky Bottles & Engraved Gifts

A Halloween bottle worth bringing

Halloween has quietly become one of the best drinking holidays of the year for grown-ups. The kids get the candy. You get a costume party, a horror-movie marathon, or a fire pit with friends, and every one of those deserves something better than whatever's been sitting in the back of the liquor cabinet since last October.

The best Halloween bottle does two jobs. It looks the part on the bar, and it tastes good enough that people go back for a second pour after the novelty wears off. This year we're leaning into two kinds of bottles that do both:

  • Engraved bourbon with a Halloween design, from our Halloween engravings collection.
  • Skull and calavera tequilas from our Halloween collection, which carry straight through to Día de los Muertos on November 1 and 2.

Below you'll find our picks for every kind of Halloween plan, from the party host to the serious collector, plus two cocktails that turn a deep, spooky purple.

Engraved Halloween whiskey

A bottle of bourbon is a nice gift. A bottle of bourbon with a Halloween design laser-etched into the glass is the gift people photograph, post, and keep on the shelf long after it's empty. We engrave three crowd-pleasing whiskeys with your choice of seasonal designs, and each one comes in under $100.

Engraved Halloween Woodford Reserve: the safe bet

If you're buying for someone and don't know their taste, start with Engraved Halloween Woodford Reserve. It's a balanced Kentucky bourbon with dried fruit, vanilla, cocoa and toasted oak, and it's equally at home neat, on a big ice cube, or in the cocktail further down this page. Nobody has ever been disappointed to unwrap a bottle of Woodford.

Engraved Halloween Angel's Envy: the sweet treat

Engraved Halloween Angel's Envy finishes its bourbon in port wine barrels, which layers red fruit and a touch of chocolate over the usual caramel and vanilla. Think of it as the bourbon version of raiding the good candy bowl. It's the right pick for someone who likes a smooth, slightly indulgent pour.

Engraved Halloween Traveller: for the music fan

Engraved Halloween Traveller Whiskey is Chris Stapleton's whiskey, made in partnership with Buffalo Trace. It's easygoing, a little sweet, and dangerously easy to keep pouring while the playlist runs. If your friend has seen Stapleton live, this is the one. The full backstory is in our post on Chris Stapleton's Traveller Whiskey.

The Engraved Halloween Sampler: can't pick just one

The Engraved Halloween Sampler 3-Pack puts all three engraved bottles side by side. Lined up on a party bar, they make an instant centerpiece, and they turn a casual get-together into an impromptu tasting: classic, port-finished, and smooth-and-sweet, all in one round.

Best Halloween bottles for every plan

Not every great Halloween bottle has to be whiskey. Some of the most eye-catching bottles in our Halloween collection are skull and calavera tequilas, and frankly they steal the show on any bar. Here's what we'd pour depending on how you're spending the night.

Hosting the party: Sangre de Vida Blanco

The Sangre de Vida Blanco comes in a skull-shaped bottle, which means it decorates your bar before you've even opened it. Inside is a clean, bright blanco tequila that's priced for mixing, so you can pour it into a pitcher of margaritas without a second thought.

If your crowd prefers sipping over shots, the Sangre de Vida Reposado comes in the same skull bottle with a softer, rounder profile from its time resting in oak. Set both out and let guests pick their favorite.

Horror-movie night: Los Azulejos Skelly Añejo

A two-hour slasher deserves a slow sipper. Skelly Añejo is an añejo tequila, aged longer than a reposado, so expect caramel, vanilla and oak in a skeleton-themed bottle that fits the mood. Pour it neat into a Glencairn whisky glass to get the most out of the aroma, dim the lights, and try not to jump.

Prefer something brighter for the opening credits? The Skelly Blanco is the cocktail-friendly sibling.

Bringing a host gift: Dos Artes Calavera Reposado

Showing up to someone else's party with a bottle in hand is good manners. Showing up with Dos Artes Calavera Reposado makes you the guest they talk about the next morning. It comes in a hand-decorated ceramic skull that your host will keep on display long after the reposado is gone, and at 1 liter, there's plenty to share with the room.

For the collector: Dos Artes x Mala Vida Calavera Extra Añejo

For the person who already owns everything, the Dos Artes x Mala Vida Calavera Extra Añejo is the showpiece: a limited-edition extra añejo in a collectible calavera bottle. It earns a spot on the shelf as much as in the glass. The earlier Dos Artes Skull Blanco 2021 makes a fitting companion piece.

By the fire pit: bourbon and a cigar

If your Halloween looks more like a backyard fire than a costume contest, pair any of the engraved bourbons above with a Buffalo Trace Churchill Cigar. For a bigger group, our cigar collection has options at every price point.

Two Halloween cocktails worth making

You don't need a fog machine to set the mood. These two drinks take a few minutes each, and both turn a deep, inky color that looks right at home next to a jack-o'-lantern.

The Black Cat Old Fashioned (bourbon)

A classic Old Fashioned gets a Halloween makeover from muddled blackberries.

  1. Muddle 3 blackberries with ¼ oz maple syrup in a rocks glass.
  2. Add 2 oz bourbon (the engraved Woodford Reserve is perfect here), 2 dashes Angostura bitters and 1 dash orange bitters.
  3. Add one large ice cube and stir for 20 seconds.
  4. Express an orange peel over the top and garnish with a blackberry.

The Midnight Margarita (tequila)

The same blackberry trick works with tequila, and it's a natural fit for a skull-bottle blanco.

  1. Muddle 4 blackberries in a shaker.
  2. Add 2 oz Sangre de Vida Blanco, 1 oz fresh lime juice and ½ oz agave syrup.
  3. Shake hard with ice for 10 seconds and strain over fresh ice.
  4. Garnish with a lime wheel and a blackberry.

Hosting a crowd? Multiply either recipe by 8 and mix it in a pitcher (skip the ice until serving so it doesn't water down). Stock up on bitters and syrups in our mixers section, and find glassware in barware. For more ideas, see our guide to popular whiskey cocktails.

Halloween whiskey FAQ

What is a good whiskey gift for Halloween?

An engraved bottle with a Halloween design. Woodford Reserve, Angel's Envy and Traveller are each under $100, easy to enjoy, and personal enough to feel like a real gift.

What's the best bourbon to bring to a Halloween party?

Woodford Reserve is the safest crowd-pleaser, since it works neat, on ice and in cocktails. If you're bringing more than one bottle, the Engraved Halloween Sampler 3-Pack gives guests three styles to compare.

What liquor comes in a skull bottle?

Several tequilas do. In our Halloween collection, Sangre de Vida uses a skull-shaped bottle, and Dos Artes makes limited-edition ceramic calavera bottles like the Calavera Reposado.

Can I use skull-bottle tequila for Día de los Muertos too?

Yes. Calavera bottles draw directly on Día de los Muertos imagery, so they're just as fitting for gatherings on November 1 and 2 as they are on Halloween.
