Gaja Darmagi is a groundbreaking Italian Cabernet Sauvignon that helped redefine modern Piedmont winemaking. First produced by Angelo Gaja in 1978, the wine’s name — “Darmagi,” meaning “what a pity” in Piedmontese dialect — reportedly came from Angelo’s father reacting to Cabernet vines being planted where Nebbiolo traditionally grew.
Crafted primarily from Cabernet Sauvignon grown in the Langhe hills of Piedmont, Darmagi combines Bordeaux-inspired structure with the elegance and terroir-driven character of northern Italy. Carefully aged in oak barrels, the wine delivers depth, balance, and exceptional aging potential.
