Producer Description
Killka wines are named after the Killka Art Gallery, Salentein's world renowned center for arts, culture and gastronomy, so it seems fitting that Killka should be the wine of choice of art connoisseurs everywhere.Embraced by the sun and the cordillera winds, the winery is surrounded by striking Andean landscape. When visitors first arrive at this special place, it is a moment remembered for a lifetime. Here, the buildings made of natural materials respect the earth and celebrate Andean cultural traditions. And so, the spirit of past generations joins a vision for a better future, creating a present in which the rediscovery of nature begins. The concept behind the design of Killka is to create a first-rate cultural centre in the midst of the natural landscape, a place that is as important as the Bodegas Salentein winery itself. The design demonstrates a deep respect for nature, the environment and the community of Mendoza. Guests can experience the world of viticulture firsthand, alongside exclusive collections of contemporary Argentine art and of 19th and 20th-Century Dutch artists. At Killka, wine and fine arts converge in a unique architectural environment, specifically created to represent that union. A special location in the heart of the Valle de Uco was selected as the site for this undertaking, a setting that embodies the essence of the concept. The tour of Killka starts at a wide gallery that opens fully to the central square-shaped patio with a sliding water floor and galleries around its perimeter. Dedicated to art, this space has murals and sculptures featuring allegories of viticulture and irrigation at the agricultural oasis. To the left, visitors can access the art halls and to the right, the multi-purpose room and restaurant. The hall leads to the small auditorium where films about viticulture and cultural topics are shown; the administration area; and the gift shop and restaurant, where a splendid view of the mountains and the winery can be enjoyed. The winery is accessible by walking through a small didactic vineyard, with a collection of the Salentein vine varieties. It also includes a demonstration of the drip irrigation system, providing a hands-on experience of the environmental transformation that turns the natural desert into an agricultural oasis typical of Mendoza province.
